Native Washingtonian, Sharon Allen Gilder is an author and freelance journalist. Her stories and articles have appeared in newspapers including: The Washington Post, The Gazette, The Town Courier, The North Potomac Times, Potomac Almanac, and Great Falls Connection, as well as national magazines including: Montessori Life, Tomorrow's Child, Home & Design, Advance for Speech-Language Pathologists, Montgomery Magazine, and the Arts and Humanities Council for Montgomery County's online magazine. She is married, an alumnus of the University of Maryland, and an educator. She taught at Woodward High School in Rockville, Maryland and she wrote the personal safety curriculum, Safety, Touch & Me for the Montgomery County Public Schools. For many years she was the Director of Marketing for a private school in Rockville, Maryland. An avid reader, she caught the writing bug at an early age. She penned several children's books that she hopes to see in print one day. Her love of music prompted her to write an Irish drinking song in celebration of St. Patrick's Day titled, "Oh The Whiskey," which she performs locally and it can be viewed on YouTube.com. Her debut novel, The Rose Beyond, a historical romance set in 1897 in Washington, D.C. with characters that have ties to England and Wales, was published in 2014. The story is a fragrant reminder of the tenacity of the human spirit and the power of love. In 2017, Beyond the Rose, the sequel to The Rose Beyond, was published. Set in 1898, mystery, old family secrets, misaligned love, and loss collide with inevitability as vivid characters with ties to England and Wales abound.
