Autorenporträt
In 2020, Mauritius suffered the worse environmental disaster in the islands history. There was a major oil spill caused when the Japanese bulk carrier, Wakashio, hit the coral reef, on the east side of the Island. This was by far the most significant ecological disaster Mauritius has ever faced. The ship spilled heavy fuel oil into the Coral Lagoon and network historic and unique biodiversity sites. Mauritius rushed to prevent heavy fuel oil from the causing of extinction of the rarest species. They have rescued many sea plants and animals and continue the massive restoration project.
