You know that a story can plant images in your mind, color the way you feel about people, burn new patterns in your neural pathways. Storytelling is the oldest form of magic, after all. But listening to stories is what the human brain is wired to do.
Gina keeps her mind open to strange possibilities; her cousin Phillip prefers sticking to proven facts. They're both pretty smart, but they may be out of their depth trying to find the truth behind the disturbing stories they've been hearing. Strangers have shown up in their little college town, telling darkly improbable tales that insinuate themselves into the minds of their hearers. These wildly different stories seem to star the same cast of characters; but in each one, a different person dies.
Gina sees right away that each story has an unwholesome effect on the mental state of the listener. But the more stories she hears, the more she begins to recognize something even more terrifying: a pattern that hints at the storytellers' secret purpose, a ritual that may have the power to fracture our reality.
