Public and environmental health protection requires safe drinking water, which means that it must be free of pathogenic bacteria. This study was done to assess the potential public health risk of drinking water. Changes in properties of water may affect the mortality of aquatic life. So, it is very important to study water physical, chemical and biological parameters. The Nile River is the main source of surface water in Egypt and its water must satisfy the needs of a constantly growing population such as drinking, agricultural and industrial water. Protecting and managing the Nile River is our responsibility and consequently the concept of sustainable development will be achieved. Establishment of environmental monitoring programs should be extended to define the water quality of drains and canals that discharge into the Nile Estuary, to assess their effects on the water quality. Cooperation between various ministries shall be requested for transmitting data information, maps and facilities.
