Florence Scovel Shinn (1871-1940) was an American artist, illustrator, and New Thought spiritual teacher. Born in Camden, New Jersey, she studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, where she met her husband, artist Everett Shinn. The couple lived in New York City before their divorce in 1912. Her artistic career included illustrating popular novels and contributing to publications like Harper's, and she gained recognition for her humorous and poignant illustrations.In the early 1900s, Shinn transitioned to metaphysical teachings, becoming a prominent figure in the New Thought movement. Her first book, The Game of Life and How to Play It (1925), introduced readers to the transformative power of positive thought and spoken words in shaping one's reality. She followed it with Your Word Is Your Wand (1928) and The Secret Door to Success (1940), emphasizing spiritual principles for personal and financial success.Posthumously published works like The Power of the Spoken Word (1945) and The Magic Path of Intuition (2013) have solidified her legacy. Shinn's writings continue to inspire readers to embrace spiritual understanding and use affirmations to manifest prosperity, success, and harmony in their lives.
