Trusses have been used extensively for roof structure of many spans. Truss configuration has a significant impact on both a building's exterior appearance and interior space. In current practice there is lack of proper guidelines to achieve optimum section. This book deals with an economic design approach to optimize the size, shape and topology of truss structures. Design optimization is a relatively new field which is having a vital importance in the area of Structural Engineering. This helps the designer to adapt the changing environment based on extensive computerization of design procedures. It mainly focuses on the actual site conditions and how a design can be effectively and economically transferred to an optimum design which is based on the fundamental objectives of design philosophy and procedures.
