The tropical atmosphere acts as a heat engine, which drives the global atmospheric dynamics and distributes the heat input received in this region to high altitudes and also to higher latitudes. Due to this fact this region is regarded as the source region for many weather activities such as thunderstorms, convections, cyclones, etc. Owing to the importance of atmospheric structures in the tropical troposphere many experiments have been conducted at Gadanki (13.5oN, 79.2oE), a tropical station in India, using UHF/VHF radars, which have revealed out some unique features associated with atmospheric turbulent layers and its impact on stratosphere-troposphere exchange (STE), especially during the passage of tropical cyclone/depression and convection. These results are discussed in this thesis. In addition, data from various field campaigns conducted over Indian peninsular regions have also been utilized for intensive studies on low tropical tropopause temperature and its role in the STE and its associated dynamics.
