Life sometimes puts us in positions we would rather avoid. Emotional or physical pain, confusion, loneliness, being misunderstood, or being taken for granted. These are just a few life-defining experiences that may cross our path. Just as the disconcerting experience of turbulence on a flight could possibly lead to a conscious or unconscious fear of flying, so are we prone to react to diverse external forces at play around us. These impactful events can leave an indelible imprint on our lives, causing unhealthy filters to be established as far as how we see and value ourselves, and others. Join me as I share a few experiential anecdotes which have challenged some of the established thinking around our perceptions of life's inherent highs and lows. My hope is that you will gain a better appreciation of what it means to live a life of purpose; one which not only allows you to see beyond the immediate threat levels of distress or discomfort, but also how to count the blessings we sometimes miss, or take for granted.
Autorenporträt
I hail from the small Caribbean island of Jamaica in the West Indies. I emigrated with my parents and younger brother to Alberta Canada at the age of seventeen, over forty-four years ago. After graduating from high school in Edmonton, I attended the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary, where I acquired my Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Diploma. Shortly thereafter, I applied to Trinity Western University in Langley, British Columbia, where I completed my Aviation Technology Degree and received my Commercial Pilot's license, Multi-Engine Instrument Rating, and Float Plane Endorsements. My initial career started with the Federal Government of Canada, in Transport Canada's Air Traffic Control System. My first posting was as an Air Traffic Control Flight Planner in the control tower of a small regional air-port-Toronto's Buttonville Airport (CYKZ) in Markham, Ontario. After a few years, I transferred to Canada's busiest airport, Lester B. Pearson International (CYYZ) in Toronto, where I worked in the control tower before transitioning to the Toronto Area Control (Radar) Centre. Thereafter, my career path diverted into Information Technology, a vocation in which I still continue to this day.
