Heining's work shows raw emotion roiling just below the surface. His trademark: PASSION...be he citing love/sacrifice, anger/revenge, or oft something in between. (CARING: Steven once saved a nearly-pulped 3 A.M. mugging victim by simply using his car's horn/high-beams. COMBATIVE: He then terrorized the muggers by nearly running 'em down after a harassing twenty-block pursuit.) Yes, Heining is never ordinary/ALWAYS provocative. In Latin: "sui generis." Steven's trauma over his wife's death explains BETWEEN TWO WORLDS' theme: mortality. Facing life's fragility. Here Heining explores the heart's chiaroscuro (love's lows/highs); yet ever the rebel, he's done so by fusing different forms (quotes, dedication, preface, in memoriam, story, cryptograms/their answers). BTW is quality over quantity, poignant even if petite. Er, poignant save Steven's one Cujo-like baring of fangs. (Ibsen wrote: "To live is to war with trolls.") BTW's literary rating: PG-13.Hinweis: Dieser Artikel kann nur an eine deutsche Lieferadresse ausgeliefert werden.
STEVEN HEINING has spent thirty-plus years in Niagara Falls, NY. Says he's finally bent on moving: "An intellectual in the ghetto is like a fish out of water." A precocious youth, he was twice-named in WHO'S WHO AMONG AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, then had a high-enough GPA (3.6) to make the Dean's List at Niagara County Community College. Heining did start on his chosen career-path -- being an essayist -- but eventually gave up writing columns. Too many editors were high on his work as long as they could pilfer AND trim almost all personality from it. Heining soon had success as a retail assistant-manager, and that is when his long-hidden leadership talent appeared. Heining is father to legions to kids. For years he donated plasma to a Johnson & Johnson lab -- J & J used his/others' plasma in making RhoGAM, a drug all expectant Rh-negative moms need to see their babies live. More, Heining will give his eyes/tissues to ConnectLife, plus his body to SUNY at Buffalo's Anatomical Gift Program, upon death. As member of the Bronx County Historical Society, Heining has spent thousands toward the upkeep of Edgar Allan Poe Cottage (listed in our National Register of Historic Places) and has even made the Cottage main benefactor in his will. Heining did volunteer for Literacy NY, happily going unpaid for teaching students English (reading and writing) so that they could strengthen their stances in society... Bottom-line, Steven Heining is sweet as apple pie. Er, sweet as apple pie a la mode, so please don't forget the scoop of vanilla ice cream.
