At the same time, commercialization of microfinance institutes is paramount for its own sustainability. Eminent Bangladeshi institutes show gradual progress in the indicators of commercialization. Between 2007 and 2013, for example, Grameen Bank alone increased its return on equity from 1.07% to 11.36%, operational self-sufficiency from 100.65% to 104.34%, and profit margin from 0.64% to 4.16%, which is a success amidst turbulent world economy. Lessons learnt from these institutions can be replicated in other contexts.
