Although the concept of participation has in recent times continued to play an important role in development discourse, there is at the same time difficulty in the conceptual definition due to contextual nature of the concept, it can be used to mean different things to its users depending on the context within which it is used. This book explored the different meanings, types and motivations of participation from the perspective of local farmers participating in international fund for Agriculture development (IFAD) assisted community- based agriculture and rural development program in Nigeria. It is expected that the analysis should help in uncovering yet another dimension in the diverse interpretations of the concept of participation. The book would be especially interested to policy makers, program planners as well as academics in the field of developmental studies.
