Sandhigatavata is chronic degenerative disease due to wear and tear of joints and Amavata is auto-immune disease. Sandhigatavata is common in men, affects both the sexes equally and Amavata affects more women than men. Age of onset is over 60 years in Sandhigatavata and 35 to 45 years in Amavata. Speed of onset is slow in Sandhigatavata and fast, within a year in Amavata. Pattern of joints affected are asymmetrical and may spread to the other side in Sandhigatavata and symmetrical involvement on both sides of the body in Amavata. Vatavardhaka Aahar-vihar is causative factor for Sandhigatavata and Virudha Aahar and Virudhu chesta is the cause of Amavata.
