Sydna Altschuler Byrne is a writer, editor, and communications consultant. She began her career at WGBH in Boston and after graduate school, became an editor at Beacon Press. Later, she edited the University of Colorado Medical School Quarterly as well as the Medical Center News. Back east, in addition to free-lance writing, she edited publications for the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater and Oakwood Friends School. Besides teaching college writing, she designed and led hundreds of communication skills workshops--including business and technical writing and public speaking--for Marist College, Dutchess Community College, IBM, and other companies. Sydna's previous publications include Wings That Wait (poetry chapbook) and Foods From Mother Earth (co-author, vegetarian cookbook). Theater productions include one-act plays produced by StageWorks ("The Second Arrow"and "Studying Crows") as well as her adaptation for the stage of the classic short story by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, "The Yellow Wallpaper,'' co-produced by the Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center. Sydna has two degrees from Boston University (BA, American Literature; MS, Journalism). A native New Englander, she lives in Poughkeepsie, NY, with her husband, William. They have two loving children and four lively grandchildren.
