There is currently limited research data regarding the prevalence of symptoms experienced by menopausal women in East Asian region, including Malaysia. In most of the studies, symptoms experienced by the menopausal women were analyzed using a scale, which originated in the West, without taking into consideration the socioeconomic, socio-demographic factors and cultural background of Asian region.Until there are adequate data on the magnitude and extent of menopausal problems in this region, it is not possible to recommend appropriate interventions or treatments.Malaysian studies on menopausal women were limited and mostly done in Peninsular Malaysia and urban settings. There is no documented or published data on prevalence of menopausal symptoms or awareness of HRT in the East Malaysia. The population in East Malaysia is more diversified and less urbanized compared to Peninsular Malaysia. This study was aimed to explore menopausal-related symptoms and women attitude towards menopause and HRT in Sarawak, Malaysia.
