Alternative fuels are a topic of huge concern at present as well as ways to produce energy more efficiently with minimized losses. the fuel cell is such a technology. The Functionality of the fuel cell technology has already been demonstrated in a lot of applications as in electric utilities, portable power applications and transportation. However the amount of fuel cell products on the market is still limited. This survey presents the procedure about which a direct methanol fuel cell unit is studied from the mechanical and chemical points of view in order to find the appropriate materials and a sealing concepts capable of reducing the losses of reactants in the chemical energy converter that is the DMFC.
