In recent years, the potential for disaster has increased significantly. Though with minimal adoption of modern facilities, equipment and taking up disaster preparedness, mitigation and recovery policies, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) is still relying on facilities which were designed when fewer travelers were flying in smaller aircrafts. Consequently, the airport is more susceptible to disasters than was the case when it handled far less traffic. The author evaluates and analyzes the level of disaster preparedness at JKIA. He endeavours to answer three questions: (a) Has JKIA adopted disaster management practices to effectively prevent, control and mitigate disaster? (b) To what extent has JKIA integrated comprehensive training and capacity building of its personnel in disaster preparedness action plan? (c) Does JKIA collaborate with other agencies in disaster preparedness, rescue and recovery? This book recommends wholesome domestication of international air safetystandards to complement the existing disaster management practices at JKIA. It is highly recommended for all scholars and practitioners in disaster management and preparedness.
