Autorenporträt
Paige Cathcart is an experienced Middle Years educator. Passionate about adolescents, she has taught Grade 6 for a number of years. Over the course of her career, she has recognised identity development and puberty being major educational issues that affect Middle Year students and their ability to engage and learn. Paige believes these issues are not always made apparent to students in Upper Primary making the transition difficult, causing them to feel overwhelmed majority of the time without understanding why. These issues flow onto affecting their general behaviour, as well as their family and peer relationships. Adults know when relationships in their life are distressed, their ability to focus and have a positive perspective on anything becomes increasingly difficult. Therefore, learning the curriculum becomes Middle Years' last priority. SODA aims to address these issues by allowing educators to foster an environment that is open to discussions about identity development and puberty. Paige's objective was to ensure SODA was relevant but subtle, allowing students to infer and teachers to build on the message through classroom activities. SODA related activities are available on Paige's online platform @Teaching6.
