Conjunctivitis is an acute inflammation of the conjunctiva, most commonly due to an allergic reaction or an infection (usually viral, but sometimes bacterial). In situ gel means conversion of sol-to-gel by pH , temperature and ion-sensitivity. The main advantage of in situ gel are increases drug contact time at ocular region sustained drug delivery and minimizing excretion of drug. The main Aim formulation, optimization and evaluation of pH based in situ ophthalmic gel of Pheniramine maleate. Carbapol940, HPMC and HPMC K15M were used as polymer. Formulation exhibited well viscosity, drug content, gelling properties (gelling capacity and gel strength) and sustained drug release. The results of a full factorial design revealed that the concentration of Carbapol and concentration of HPMC K15M significantly affected the independent variables while the concentration of HPMC and concentration of HPMC K15 significantly affected the dependent variable (gel strength). These insitu ophthalmic gel are, suitable for ocular sustained release of pheniramine maleate.
