It is designed on a taught course and it is useful for anyone engaged in the formal study of Children's Literature. In 2000's when the course was initially designed and initiated in the university, there were very few resources for those interested in studying Children's Literature than there are today. Today, interest in Children's Literature has seen a number of children's books published annually leading to a lot of attention in this area. The aim of this book is to deepen understanding of children's books and Children's Literature in general. The book is primarily intended as an introduction to the subject, providing a sound foundation for further study. Since this is a first book of its kind in Kenya, questions such as, 'What is Children's Literature?' 'what is the role of Children's Literature and what are the various genres in Children's Literature, among others have been addressed.

Pamela M. Ngugi (PhD) is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Kiswahili at Kenyatta University- Kenya. She has published various books and articles on Children's Literature. In Addition, she has participated and presented papers in various conferences. Her research interests are on Language, Culture and Children's Studies.
