The present book deals with 1038 species of lichens, arranged alphabetically under family and genera. The book is summerized into three chapters. The first chapter deals with a general background including a brief about Uttarakhand Himalaya, geography, climate, vegetation, livelihood etc. The chapter ends with the significance of lichens in different fields. Lichenological investigations conducted by different authors in the region during the last three decades (since 1990) have been described in the chapter second. The third chapter describes the current scenario of lichens of Uttarakhand, their distribution and occurrence in 307 localities of the state. The details about each lichen species such as growth form, habitat, altitude, family, locality, etc. have been provided.Name of explored sites for lichenological study have also been given. It is hoped that this book will serve as a useful reference for all researchers particularly lichenologists, enganged in field of ecology and allied disciplines.

Vijay Arya is pursuing Ph. D. in Botany from Kumaun University, S.S.J. Campus Almora, He has qualified CSIR- NET JRF in life sciences. He has contributed about 12 research papers in many peer reviewed National and International Journals and co-authored 1 book and 2 book chapters. Recently he has been selected as an Assistant Professor by UKPSC.
