Amino acids and nucleobases are present in a variety of biological, industrial and environmental samples and play an important role in biological processes.Their separation and determination have become a very important goal of analytical chemistry. Membrane separation techniques involving supported liquid membranes and bulk liquid membranes using synthetic non cyclic macrocylic receptors in organic solvents have recently been applied for the effective and selective isolation and separation of many amino acids. Molecular recognition of amino acids and nucleobases with various acyclic, tripodal and macrocylic receptors was explored. The transport and extraction studies of amino acids with selected receptors were investigated. Supported liquid membrane (SLM) technique was also applied as a tool for separation of selected amino acids and nucleobases with the help of various artificial and natural supports.
