The title of this book is The Pursuit of Grace. The reason I point out that there is a pursuit involved is because grace is so contrary to what is commonly taught and experienced in the world, our thinking, and unfortunately often times in the church. Therefore, there has to be a constant conscious effort to believe so as to overcome all the opposition to this magnificent gift of God. What must I do to be saved? This is the question man has been asking throughout his time here on earth. The very existence of the many different religions found in every nation, tribe, and people group down through the age's attests to the fact that man is indeed concerned about his eternal destination. Now being that there are so many different beliefs, it stands to reason that there are many different answers to the question being asked. But what is the truth? What must I do to be saved? I'm sure that everyone thinks that their beliefs are correct, that their answer is the right answer. No one would willingly commit themselves to a belief system that they knew to be erroneous. In Proverbs 14:12 we're told, "There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end, it leads to death." All religions have a somewhat moral character about them. Most promote good behavior or good works to some degree. They look good, sound good and seem right. But are they true? If not, then they lead to death. So, what then is the right way? In John 14:6 Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." You see Jesus didn't say that there was a plethora of ways in which we might come to God. He said there is only one way, and that is through Him. This is what we want to consider.
