Autorenporträt
Born in small city near Orangeburg, South Carolina, Quintin Lumpkins grew up as a hunting, fishing, and farming country boy to a single mother of three. Trapped in a life of poverty, he turned to the streets as a young teen, trying to provide a better living for his family. A labeled gang member, for committing crimes such as selling drugs, robbery, and extortion, at the age of 17 he was given a 15-year prison sentence. During the beginning of his incarceration he spent almost two years in solitary confinement. Then, at the age of 20 he was charged with murder and attempted murder, which landed him for nearly two years in a statewide supermax facility. He was at the bottom of the barrel. For Quintin's whole life, he faced the struggles of a young African-American male, a modern day gangster, a forgotten outcast to society, and a victim of ignorance which had led to the destruction of his true self. But from the bottom of life everything must rise, and with the knowledge that Quintin discovered down there at the bottom, he has now arisen. He rose to overcome the false allegations that were placed on him. He rose from the old him who had died within those facility walls, and broke through the bars of the prison that was his own ignorance. Sometimes you have to go through the worst in life to get to the best. Today as a successful investor, author, and youth leader, at the age of 25, Quintin Lumpkins is finally proud to be himself.
