Inserting vegetation to the urban environment will enable metropolitan areas to become more comfortable, cooler and unobtrusive while reducing urban heat island effect. Altering urban environment with plants mainly green roofs and green walls have been enhanced the city environment through increasing biodiversity, improving thermal consolation and promote sustainable urban development. The demand for green walls is escalating swiftly due to the benefits that they offer and the aim is to improve existing wall systems. High density plantings can be established through intensive management by using modular living walls. With the time, it has been found that widespread plant species have the possibility of being used and raised properly on vertical living walls. Plant species of the living walls greatly differ according to the location and micro-climate of the site such as sun exposure and wind exposure, as well as height. This book presents the potential utilization of selected media for the growth of different plant species and different plant physiological parameters to be utilized in vertical green walls to assess its cooling effect.
