Autorenporträt
Ajoy Ghatak did his B.Sc, from Agra College, M.Sc, from University of Delhi and Ph.D. from Cornell University and was a Research Associate at Brookhaven National Laboratory. He joined IIT Delhi in 1966 and has recently retired from there as Professor of Physics. He is a recipient of several awards including the SPlE Educator award, OSA Beller award and the CSlR S.S. Bhatnagar award. He now spends his time writing books and giving guest lectures at schools, colleges and universities. He is the author of several books; his latest book is: Albert Einstein: A Glimpse of his Life, Philosophy and Science. K. Thyagarajan joined the Physics Department at IIT Delhi in 1977, became a Professor in 1990 and is currently the Head of the Department. He was the co-recipient of the Fiber Optic Person of theyear 1997 award by Lucent Technologies-Finolex and Voice & Data. In 2003 he was decorated with the title of Officier dans I'ordre des Palmes Académiques (Officer in the Order of the Academic Palms) by the French Government. He received the Teaching bcellence Award from IIT Delhi in 2009. His current research interests are in the fields of guided wave quantum optics, periodic interactions in optical waveguides, optical fiber amplifiers and nonlinear optical effects. R. K.Varshney received his Ph.D. degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, where he is currently Professor in the Physics Department. He was awarded Marie Curie Fellowship of the Commission of European Community and Fullbright Fellowship, USA. He is the co-author (with Prof. A.K. Ghatak and Prof. I.C. Goyal) of book Fiber Optics, (Viva Books, New Delhi). He has published more than 125 research papers in reputed international journals and conferences in the fields of Fiber and Integrated Optics, Specialty Fibers, Fiber Optic Sensors and Nonlinear Optics.
