This study analysed impact of exploiting Ixora scheffleri ssp.keniensis a globally rare locally endemic tree recorded to occur in Ragati forest only and a near-endemic tree Vepris glandulosa. Conservation status of liana species used in basketry namely Rourea thomsonii, Hippocratea sp.cf. africana and Dalbergia lactea was analysed. Data gathered indicate rarity of study plants is a direct result of over-exploitation in the past. Rourea, Dalbergia and Ixora had high numbers of seedlings and saplings compared to the mature individuals. Vepris and Hippocratea had few individuals in middle sized classes thus in future there may be no mother plants to perpetuate their population. Gathering effort of lianas for basketry has increased leading to an increase in prices of liana crafted baskets since it takes about 22 years for lianas to reach maturity. Studied Bachelor of Education Science (Botany& Zoology ) and Master of Science (Plant Ecology) at Kenyatta University. Currently undertaking PhD studies on pollination of Coffea arabica.
