Humble was originally established as a sawmill town along the Houston East & West Texas Railway in 1886. It was named for Pleasant Smith Humble, the town's first US postmaster. Houston native Dr. Robert Meaux, a local genealogist and historian, works for the Humble Independent School District. He has strong family ties to the area, as both of his parents were raised in Humble. Dr. Meaux has worked with the staff of the Humble Museum in researching land records, newspapers, personal stories, and other resources stored in various archives across Texas. Images of America: Humble tells the history of Humble's citizens, churches, schools, and businesses through images donated by local families to the Humble Museum's collection and other local photograph archives.
