When four teenage archaeologists pinpoint the location of a hidden lake promising both risk and riches, they follow their ancient Greek map to the adventure of a lifetime. They soon discover they don't need superhero powers or DNA from mythological gods to overcome history's most frightening beasts or infamous villains. After barely escaping with their lives, they return home with backpacks filled with treasure. But before enjoying their treasure trove, they must rush back to the lake to prevent it from being destroyed by one of the most fearsome creatures in Greek mythology. This time they enlist help from an unlikely cast of characters who reportedly met their demise centuries ago. As they unravel the stories of their crew and encounter perfectly preserved ancient wonders on their modern-day voyage, they begin to suspect an unimaginable evil plot. Who-or what-is the force behind their incredible encounters? Joey Kelly and the Astonishing Discovery of Veiled Lake whisks readers aboard a Jafco Seamaster to scenes of wonder ranging from caves of giant popcorn to collections of ancient Greek warriors turned to stone to a bloodthirsty crew of pirates eager for revenge. As the book draws to a close, we all learn a valuable lesson. With friendship, teamwork, intelligence, self-reliance, and a little bit of luck, we can conquer anything.
Autorenporträt
Robert Rovegno grew up in Woodside, Queens, one of New York City's five boroughs. Because he grew up in the city, he developed an overactive imagination. The vacant lots in his neighborhood became battlefields he and his friends had to defend against invading hoards of incredible monsters. On hot summer days, these lots would become exotic islands he and his friends would explore. Abandoned cars became fighter planes or spaceships that hurtled toward new galaxies. Bicycles were battle-ready steeds that galloped through his neighborhood. Summer weekends at the beach were numerous, so Bob spent many weekends snorkeling in the waters of Long Island Sound. At the age of sixteen, he met Lucy, his muse. After graduating from Davidson College with a BA in History, Bob and Lucy were married and had two beautiful daughters. Their two little girls wouldn't sleep unless their dad, Bob, told them at least one adventurous bedtime story. Things haven't changed much, as his nine grandchildren love listening to Granpa Bob's stories. Now, he spends his time playing with his grandkids, working on his antique cars, and sitting with Lucy on Holden Beach, watching and waiting for Joey Kelly and his team to pass by in their Jafco Seamaster on their way to another incredible adventure.
