This book examines the role of green spaces in compensating for what are considered to be the main deterrents to city centre living. The aim is to offer a perspective on how to incorporate greenery in the common open spaces of high density developments. To explore the role of urban nature, two case studies in London have been assessed. Both of these high density housing developments have a perimeter block typology and provide significant semi-private green spaces for their residents. The study concludes that balancing density with adequate access to urban nature can change people s perception of the environment and gives recommendations on how to incorporate different types of landscape in high density developments.
