Over past many years considerable efforts have been made to integrate Life Cycle Assessment in environmental policies. Though it has been years now but still most of the studies are focussed on the sophisticated scientific methodologies of LCA; while very few contributions analyze the actual acceptability and adoption of LCA by the industry. This study has focussed on the effectiveness of such decision making tools for the industry, especially the electronics industry where the need to understand the applicability of such tools becomes even more inevitable, considering its global presence and huge climate change mitigation potential. This study explores the actual implementation of LCA by the German electronics industry, main drivers and barriers of adoption of LCA, industry's expectations from the scientific community and the government, plausible future adoption patterns of such policy tools and also the possible extent of diffusion of such policy tools to developing nations like India. This study should be useful to professionals and researchers working on the application of LCA in industry worldwide.
