Autorenporträt
Ron Brooks was born on 14 November 1938, less than ten months before the outbreak of World War Two, which then lasted six years. Their house was close to Filton Airfield, Bristol Docks, and Avonmouth Docks, all prime target zones for the Nazis. His dad was conscripted in 1940 and sent abroad for almost five years, immediately after compassionate leave following the very difficult birth of Ron¿s brother Peter. Peter was born on Sunday 13 April 1941 during the horrific Easter bombings. Ron has clear memories of their ceilings coming down, windows being blown in and nearby houses demolished. Mum Emmy was left to bring up four children alone, with little money, heat, food, or clothes. The one thing the family always had in oodles though, was lots of love. Ron went on to pass his 11-plus and go to Cotham Grammar School. He spent 42 years in Local Government and is now self-employed, and an Associate Consultant with BSI.
