Discontinuation of highly active antiretroviral therapy among Ugandans

Beschreibung

Discontinuation of, or outright defaulting on highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) by HIV-positive patients is harmful, and so is periodic unintentional non-adherence or treatment interruption. The resulting harm is especially more pronounced in sub-Saharan Africa where most individuals start HAART in advanced stages of the disease. Discontinuing patients could spread drug resistant virus to other individuals.

Autor

Ronald Kiguba is a Pharmacist, Epidemiologist, Biostatistician, and Lecturer at the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Makerere University College of Health Sciences - Uganda. He was a visiting scholar at Clare College - University of Cambridge and at the Medical Research Council Biostatistics Unit, Institute of Public Health, Cambridge.
