Several studies of errors in English writing of learners of English as a second language, in India and abroad are available. In India quite a few studies have been made of Indian English in general, and of the English of several regional Indian language speakers but not much work had been done on the English of Telugu speakers. The work examines the language features such as structure, lexis, style, and spelling and punctuation of bilingual postgraduate students whose first language is Telugu. The student errors have been analysed in terms of the sources such as language learning strategies, communication strategies, mother tongue interference and socio-cultural factors. In addition, this study also analyses the errors with reference to the influence of three specific socio- psychological variables like medium of instruction, urban or rural area, and exposure to English. This book should be of interest to all those interested in bilingual education, language variation, remedial teaching, effective syllabus design, preparation of new teaching materials and formulation of better evaluation strategies.
