The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of the predictive factors in detecting the possible degree of difficulty in laparoscopic cholecystectomy as well as possibility for conversion to an open cholecystectomy, pre-operatively, in order to take appropriate measures if laparoscopy is scheduled or select the patient who will require open procedure to avoid the possible complications which may result from using laparoscopic procedures in these cases. Recognition of these factors is important for understanding the characteristics of patients at a higher risk of conversion since they require longer hospital stay and place more demands on the health care facilities. Also the surgeon should keep a low threshold for conversion to open surgery in those high-risk patients.
