Due to variation in the dynamic stiffness of teeth in contact of mating gears, self-excited vibrations are generated in the shafts supporting the gears. These vibrations superimposed by the vibrations due to bearings are transmitted to the foundation on which whole geared system is mounted. Therefore, a significant attention has been made to the understanding and dynamic analysis of geared rotor systems. This first edition on "dynamic analysis of geared rotor systems through finite element modelling is a detailed analysis using standard finite element software with analytical methods. This book is an outcome of the dissertation as part of master s program in design engineering. The contents of this book may steer an advanced course after prerequisites such as gear dynamics, rotor dynamics, finite element method and solid mechanics. Although there are analytical formulations to determine the variable stiffness of mating teeth combination, in the present book, the gear mesh stiffness is estimated using CATIA and ANSYS® and then a MATLAB® code based on analytical formulation to simulate the dynamic response at various locations of rotor.
