Present work is based on design & Analysis of a connecting rod used in an internal combustion engine.. In the present work forged steel material has been used which has high reliability and longer life due to high endurance limit. Von Mises theory of failure has been used to check the failure of the component. Connecting rod being an important component and subjected to variable loading, a high value of safety factor has been considered. Model created in Pro/E Wildfire. Since the conventional design is based on certain assumptions, failure of the component has been checked through software called ANSYS 9.0. Though there are various types of elements available in the analysis software. The most common type element is tetrahedral solid 185 is used in this analysis. For material definition the Young¿s Modulus, Poisson¿s ratio and density of the material must have to define in the software so that analysis can takes place easily. After defining material properties mesh creation takes place for better result meshing must be in proper manner , because when we import the model in ANSYS there should not be data loss and also not small area or volume created in the geometry.
