The changing scenarios of natural environment always influence the living organisms of the earth. The changing scenarios of natural environment always influence the living organisms of the earth. There is a strong need of monitoring such changes through studying the response of different groups of life forms in terms of changes in diversity along a gradient of time and/or space. I had been working in the field of biodiversity research and conservation after my pre-university classes. I had been fascinated to understand the response of wildlife to its habitat gradients in-terms of landscape alternation factors. I had worked extensively on herpetofauna in the periphery of my university campus of southern Assam taking different habitat gradients. The six month long study was further presented in a open seminar in the department of Ecology and Environmental Science of Assam (Central) University in late 2007. The same study had been incorporated in this book. I hope it will serve the cause of conservation sciences.
