My name is Rameena Barksdale, and as I write this book on domestic violence and toxic relationships, it is the fact that I'm getting out of one right now that compelled me to start this project. I have been in multiple abusive, toxic relationships not by choice, but subconsciously, I've chosen what I think I deserve. I wrote this book for two reasons. 1. For the people who don't understand why women trapped in Domestic Toxic Relationships don't leave right away and the steps and phases some of us may go through in these relationships. I want to try to help them understand the importance of supporting people in these situations. 2. For the women who are currently trying to get out of these situations and feel that it's impossible. I'm letting them know that they are not alone and the steps they need to take to get help and get out. People always ask, "why do you stay?" "what is it about him that you just won't leave?" In this book, I will answer these questions based on a group of women who have been in abusive situations. A battered woman isn't dumb for staying. She needs help. This kind of relationship makes a woman feel worthless and that this abuser is all she will have, and most times its financial reasons, fear of abandonment, and low self-esteem. This person isn't a monster to them. He/she was everything we thought we wanted in the beginning. It always starts correctly.
Autorenporträt
Rameena Barksdale was born September 12, 1979, in Newark, New Jersey, to Cynthia and Leroy Barksdale Jr. Growing up in the hood with four siblings, she saw all types of things and grew accustomed to her surroundings. Their house was one of Saturday night card games, beer, and loud arguments. Rameena knew that this was not how her life would end up. After spending five years of her life in foster care and having her first child at nineteen, she wanted what was best for her and her child, but a life of domestic abuse and violence almost ended it all. All she could remember were hands being wrapped around her throat and not being able to breathe. She knew that was it: all she could think about was her children waking up to find her not breathing. She said, "God if I make it out alive just one last time, then I'm done." From that moment on, she promised to tell her story and advocate for anyone experiencing domestic abuse. Working in the cosmetology field as Imeanhair_nj._stylist has allowed her to reach many young woman and tell her story. This book will touch on many things Rameena has discovered while being in abusive relationships. Throughout each ordeal, God has seen her through and spared her life. Rameena is now CEO and founder of I.M.T.A. ("I Am More Than Anything"), Inc., where she teaches self-worth and domestic violence prevention at numerous shelters and transitional homes in her area . This book is for people to understand what goes on inside the head of a battered woman and what you should do to help.
