The history of Study Road is like it was constructed as a flood protection embankment in the ancient time of Khulna. The people of surrounding area were using that embankment as a walkway from that period. With the increment of population, in 1980 s, the top of the embankment turned into road to meet the travel demand of that locality. The history says that construction of that road was not that much planned. As a result, planning considerations like design standards, capacity, design speed, allowable traffic etc. were absent for it. After construction of Bridge across the Rupsha River, the previous ferry service has laid off which was the mean of communication among south-western part of the country with the north-western regions. Thus, a huge volume of traffic of different types are diverting on that road to access on Bridge. This additional volume is ruining the efficiency of study road. For returning the efficiency status of road with free traffic movement on it appropriate transport planning is necessary. This study was targeted to measure the traffic flow efficiency of study road as also to identify alternative means for enhancing the efficiency of traffic flow.
