The process of choosing and deciding the official language of a country is not the only challenge, but also when the official language is adopted as the language of education. The implementation of such a language might even be more challenging than expected, especially in multilingual and multicultural countries like Namibia. Namibia's Independence in 1990 has created a platform for the introduction of the language policy. Since 1993 when the education language policy was implemented, the role of national languages as mediums of instruction in primary education remained a thorny issue especially in schools where learners are from different language groups, even though some directives on how to choose the medium of instruction have been spelt out in the education language policy. As a country with multilingual and multicultural diversity, the education language policy remains a challenging phenomenon.
