Hydrodynamic improvement of a ship can be done in different ways; however, this study focuses on the hydrodynamic improvement of the design based on fuel consumption and CO2 emission. A set of ship design suggestions are proposed by analyzing 2247 different types of inland ships. Those ship design suggestions had been implemented on existing inland general cargo, an oil tanker, and passenger ships of Bangladesh. Existing ships' hull lines were prepared after physical investigation and measurement. These ships' designs were improved based on the ship design suggestions. Both the parent and improved ships' resistances have been computed by CFD software. The result of CFD analysis has shown 13%, 10%, and 13.60% improvement in ship resistance for investigated inland cargo, oil tanker, and passenger ships respectively. Since the effective power of a ship is a product of total ship resistance and speed, more than 10% of fuel consumption can be reduced by the improved ship based on the design suggestion provided.
Autorenporträt
An early-stage researcher on the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI), who later found a way to implement the index in the Inland Ships. Increasing the energy efficiency of commercial inland ships by focusing on the reduction of CO2 emission and fuel consumption is the prime interest of Dr. S M Rashidul Hasan
