Wayne Suttles Wayne Suttles (1918¿2005) was an American anthropologist and linguist. He was the leading authority on the ethnology and linguistics of the Coast Salish people of British Columbia and Washington State. He was Professor of Anthropology at Portland State University. Coast Salish Essays is a collection of his key contributions to an ethnographic understanding of the Native peoples of the Northwest coast.
