The study focused on the role of Zimbabwean museums in creation and portrayal of national identity during post-colonial period. The research focused mainly on museum's collections, themes, events, interpretation and presentation of exhibitions in portraying Zimbabwe's identity after independence up to present day. The study also covered on the factors which have led the Zimbabwe Military Museum to be slow in addressing issues of national identity. The research also explored what has been done by other countries in addressing issues of national identity. In this study different stakeholders have included on their perceptions pertaining what can be done to effectively address issues of national identity. The researcher used descriptive research design and to gather data. Research instruments such interviews, desktop surveys, focus group discussions were implemented. Research findings demonstrated that the ZMM is not doing justice to its audience through collections, themes, events,interpretation and presentation of its displays that address and create national identity.
