Ipoh is the capital of Perak located at the North of Peninsular Malaysia. The town is situated at the heart of what was once the richest tin ore field in the world, the "Kinta Valley". The inheritance of the tin mining legacy has created the heritage area of Ipoh City as seen nowadays which consists of core zone and buffer zone. The architectural asset of the heritage area of Ipoh is the uniqueness of their shophouses that reflects the variety of colonial styles. Thus, this manuscript is prepared to explain the history, the development of Ipoh City and the detail of the typology of heritage building façade which consist of various architectural styles such as Neo-Classical, Transition, Eclectic, Art Deco, Early Modern and Modern. It also describes the important of building conservation, the principles and philosophy of conservation approaches and the conservation terminology. The aim of this book is to provide the architect, builders, historians, conservators and public interest with a better understanding and to create awareness to the public on the significant of preserving the heritage building for future generation.
