This book focuses on engineering design approaches for spacecraft antennas. Based on their functions in spacecraft, it discusses practical antenna design, measurement and testing. Most of the antennas covered originated at the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST), which has launched almost 300 satellites into orbit. The book presents antenna systems for seven existing spacecraft designs, while also introducing readers to new antenna technologies for spacecraft. This book is intended for researchers, graduate students, and engineers in various fields of aerospace technology and astronautics, especially spacecraft design, communication engineering and related areas.
Professor YOU Rui graduated from Southeast University (Nanjing, China) in 1982. He has been engaged in satellite antenna design for more than 30 years. Many of the antennas he has designed have been successfully used in orbit. As a key antenna engineer, his design activities involve space-borne antenna systems for meteorological satellites, remote sensing satellites, communication satellites, space science satellites etc. Professor You served as director of the antenna division and deputy director of the technology commission at Beijing Institute of Spacecraft System Engineering (BISSE), China Academy of Space Technology (CAST). He is also a project manager for the hard X ray modulation telescope (HXMT), China's first space telescope for science, which launched in 2017. His current research interests include terahertz payloads and new missions in space. Dr GAO Wenjun received his BS, MS and PhD degrees in electromagnetic theory and microwave technology from Beihang University, Beijing, China, in 1995, 1998, and 2002, respectively. He is currently a senior engineer at Beijing Institute of Spacecraft System Engineering (BISSE), Chinese Academic of Space Technology (CAST). From 2002 to 2012, Dr Gao was a vice-professor at the Institute of Electronics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. His current research interests include electromagnetic theory, advanced antenna technologies, and synthetic aperture radar system design. He is the author or coauthor of over 30 papers in journals and conference proceedings. Professor WU Chunbang graduated from Wuhan University (Wuhan, China) in 1992, and is currently director of the Antenna Institute of CAST XI'AN; a member of the Communication and Navigation Professional Group of the Science and Technology Committee of CAST; member of the Science and Technology Committee of CAST XI'AN etc. Prof Wu has participated in many national key projects in the fields of communication, navigation, remote sensing and manned space missions, and was awarded several prizes for Science and Technology Progress (STP). His research interests include space-borne large deployable reflector antennas and multi-beam antennas for high-throughput satellites. Professor LI Hongbin graduated from the University of Electronic Science and Technology (Chengdu, China) in 1996 and has been engaged in satellite antenna design for more than 25 years. Many of the antennas he has designed have been successfully used in orbit. As a key antenna engineer, his design activities involve space-borne antenna systems for remote sensing satellites, communication satellites etc. Professor Li served as deputy director of the antenna division at Beijing Institute of Spacecraft System Engineering (BISSE), China Academy of Space Technology. His research interests include multi-functional antennas and dual polarization antennas in space
