E. Gail Chandler's poems and short stories have appeared in numerous regional publications plus the journals Passager and Verse Wisconsin; the anthologies Motif, Standing on the Mountain: Voices of Appalachia, and Bigger than they Appear. She received a Betty Gabehart prize for poetry, Appalachian Heritage's Denny Plattner award, and was nominated by Verse Wisconsin for The Best of the Web. She has a nonfiction book, Sunflowers on Market Street, and a poetry chapbook, Where the Red Road Meets the Sky. Chandler has degrees from Berea College in Kentucky and from The New School in New York City. She served three years in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam era. In 1976, she became the first female deputy warden in a male prison in Kentucky and worked in corrections until retirement. She lives by a lake in Shelbyville, Kentucky with her husband, Curtis Chandler, a psychologist. They have a daughter, Tara.
