This work presents a theoretical description about Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) software solutions in the first part. In the second part a cluster analysis with a self-developed method is conducted in order to analyse the market of the MES solutions and their providers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. It can be concluded that MES-solutions are a very useful tool to record data in the manufacturing processes. The market analysis has shown some interesting insights in the MES market. For the cluster analysis, a large amount of secondary data were collected from several sources and described. By using the clustering methods in SPSS Statistics, the market analysis was conducted, to group products with similar characteristics into individual segments. Consequently the different segments were described and compared to each other. This approach helped to get an overview of the total market and serves as a basis for further analysis.
