While in Hawaii he designs a deadly and accurate sniper's rifle and builds a model with a fellow Marine. After the attack on Pearl Harbor throwing the United States into war he is drafted into the OSS the espionage agency activated during World War II. Because of his expertise in the languages of Italian, French and German and his ability to hit targets at great distances he spends the War behind enemy lines constantly destroying and sabotaging warehouses, truck convoys and rail transportation systems. He also was called upon to eliminate high-ranking officers and enemies of the allied forces. His espionage work carried him through North Africa, Sicily, Italy. France, Germany and finally Switzerland to assassinate a German high-ranking officer fleeing to a country with no extradition with accumulated money extorted while running a concentration camp.
