The proverb is taken from the example, which is a common saying in which the situation of the second is likened to the first, and the origin of it is the simile. It was also said that the proverb is a word that differs from the word for which it is multiplied and its meaning agrees with the meaning of that. They likened it to the example that others work on. Some scholars said: A proverb is a well-known sentence of saying, so it is transferred from what was mentioned in it to everything that is correctly intended by it without any change attached to it, and the proverb is one of the two types of representational metaphor; Therefore, the scholars of rhetoric addressed it. He said in Al-Muftah in the topic of simile: The representative simile, when it becomes widespread, is used as a metaphor and nothing else. Name an example. In Lisan al-Arab: a proverb is something that is used as a proverb and is made like it. And in Al-Sihah: the proverbs he gives. What is meant by using a proverb is to consider something as something else and represent it with it, and one of the conditions of the proverb is that it should not be changed from what it originally applies to.
