Manipur occupies a small tract of land in the extreme North-Eastern part of India and it lies between 23"50' N & 25"41" N latitudes and 93"2' E and 94"47' E longitudes. Being a hilly region, Manipur is at an elevation varying from 730 - 3000 meters above mean sea level. The state covers a total area of 22,356 sq. km. of which nearly 15,154 sq. km. area constitutes of forest, the vegetation being typical of tropical and sub-tropical forests.
